Changing Main File and Register Name?

Post by bboyyak1 » Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:32 pm

Hi we are in the process of changing our business name, is there away to change our file names to reflect this? Example, our current register file is The Edge, we are now changing to STUDIO BE. I would like to keep our current databases intact, but have the file and register name be Studio Be.

Any help is appreciated.

Change names

Brian,

To change the name of the register go to the "Passwords - Name" feature of the POSCONFG.EXE program and type in the new name.

When you say you want to "change the file names" I am assuming that you want to change the names of the data files from something like THE_EDGE.POS, THE_EDGE.TBL, THE_EDGE.IDX, etc. to STUDIOBE.POS, STUDIOBE.TBL, STUDIOBE.IDX etc.

From the DOS C: prompt this is a piece of cake. Just go into the folder that contains all of your POS files and use the following command...

RENAME THE_EDGE.* STUDIOBE.*

and press [ENTER]. Of course you have to use the old root of the file name and the new root you want to change it into. Anytime you want to get anything done really quickly always drop down to DOS.

To do the same thing from Windows you have to use the Windows feature "My Computer" to open the folder and then right click on each icon with the old root of the filename you want to change, then click on [Rename], then type in the new root with the corrent extension. Just hope that you do not skip one and that you do not mistype any of them or change the extensions. You will probably want to make a backup of the folder just in case.
