ChrisKraus,
Gee, at Wolcott St. and Chicago Av. I could hop a rapid transit train and be there in 20 minutes. I used to live a block west of Wolcott although a few miles north of Chicago Av.
But anyway, it seems as though these folks already have an automatic method of running their operation.

I honestly thought that this was really neat.
I wonder (hope!) if it's running it on Linux or Something.

It looks like the parent company, Mid-American Elevator Company just uses a PLC to control their elevator machines. It's likely programmed in assembler using a Windows machine. They also provide Windows diagnostics utilities.
