I know that it is way too early to really know for sure, but has it been confirmed yet by anyone here if the new Beta Version of Microsoft Vista will play nice with POS? Someday I plan to roll-out a test machine with Vista on it to see what all the hype is all about. If no one else has tried it, i'll keep you posted once I try it out myself....
Cheers,
Tina

Vista & DOS
Tina,
Posman has said in the chat room that Windows Vista will not run DOS software, therefore it will not run DHPOS.
However on several places on the internet it has been stated that it would be nuts for Microsoft to no longer have any support for DOS software because many corporations have legacy software written in DOS that the corportations have used for years and cannot do without. They may no longer have the source code for the DOS software in question and the programmers that wrote the software retired years ago. Without the DOS software they would no longer be able to access decades of old data, they are stuck with it. If Microsoft wants to sell them a new version of Windows then it will have to run that old DOS software.
And how hard would it be for Microsoft to do this? I am sure that if they cannot, or will not, continue to support DOS applications that someone else will make a fortune writing a DOS emulator for Windows Vista. I am sure that MS will not allow Linux to run DOS (it will) when Vista will not and give folks yet another reason to move over to Linux.
So if Vesta will run DOS will it run DHPOS? DHPOS does nothing slick. It does not use direct memory access or graphics. It follows the rules. This means that if something will run DOS at all it will run DHPOS, I think.
So, Tina, I would really appreciate it when Vista comes out if you could test it with DHPOS.

Vista and DOS
From http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/longhorn.asp:
Q: This sounds like a huge change from today's Windows. Will my current applications still work with Longhorn?
A: Yes. Microsoft has even pledged to retain DOS compatibility with Longhorn, though it's currently unclear whether DOS support will be improved over what's available today in Windows XP.
