Barcode Scanner

Post by Guest » Sat Apr 02, 2005 2:35 am

Hi All.

Foolishly i made the mistake of purchasing a serial scanner with the intent of using it on POS. Although i have managed to get it to power up etc using serial keys windows accessibility feature, i am still not getting any input from it, anywhere, including POS.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? Even if it cannot be used with POS and ihave to purchase a keyboard wedge version i would still love to be able to use it.

Regards,

Well first of all - yes that is a mistake.

By far the keyboard wedge models are much easier, practically plug in and go. Search the forum for "serial" and you will find several topics which may help, but there is no one solution to this problem.

You will need to get the scanner to get to the point where it can just send characters to the computer as though it were a keyboard. Or the easiest option is, as already stated - get a keyboard wedge scanner.

Windows has a real problem allowing DOS applications to communicate with serial devices (or it becomes so complicated it isn't funny) and in most instances we strongly recommend alternatives.

Sam,

The first step is to make sure that the scanner actually works. Try this. Load your Windows word processing software and then scan a barcode. The barcode number should come up in the word processing screen. If it does not then you should seriously question if the scanner is really functional.
