The mystery feature.

Post by Dale Harris » Fri Dec 17, 2004 10:25 pm

Well for the last couple of weeks I have been mentioning a “mystery” feature that I will be working on next that everyone will be able to use and everyone will <u>LOVE.</u>

I did not want to tell anyone what it is because I did not want to deal with a constant, “Is it done yet?”

But that has changed because now I am working on it and I want your ideas.

The new feature will allow you to use the sales report in the “Reports” feature to not only print the current sales report but to specify a “start date” and an “end date” and then the program will add up all the daily sales reports from those days and print a sales report with the totals from those days.

Everything on the sales report will be totaled except for “opening cash fund” and “cash in reg..” All taxes, sales, transaction counts, everything that is on the sales report in version 6.21 BETA.

This means that you can create a sales report for any day, any week, any month, any year, or any time period you specify. (5¼ years?)

One important point. A day’s sales are credited to the day the register is actually closed. For example; if you open your store at 9:00am on the 4th and then close it at 2:00 am the next morning then all the sales will be credited to the 5th.

Since this feature will depend on each day’s sales being saved to a file, and the current versions of the POS program do not have this file, you will not be able to compile a sales report from before you upload and use the next version of POS. Since I am sure that everyone will want to begin using this feature from the beginning of 2005 I am dedicated to finishing this feature and releasing the next version by 12-31-04. I hope.

Got any ideas / thoughts on this new feature. Its got to be finished soon.

Nice Idea! I thought of something when you mentioned that. Would the sales be compiled into one total on the report? or listed as seperate days? For instance, we have the same feature on our POS. The user enters the start & end date, and it compiles totals by department for each day and gives all grand totals for those days, just doesn't list each day. Then theres another report option to print "This Week" and "Last Week" reports which views/prints out a "Landscape" page of each day (Sun-Sat) by department, then a grand total at the end.

Just an idea... I think what you have would be a great feature

Total only

Post by Dale Harris » Sat Dec 18, 2004 9:33 am

RJ,

The program will print out totals for whatever time period you specify. To get sales for any particular day you would have to enter a start date and end date that would be for that particular day.

Only a closing report totaling that time period for that register would be printed. If you do this feature on the GLOBAL folder then you would get a total for that time period for all the registers.

The report would not include tips (except for total tips) because over a period of time several different people may use the same slot in the employee list.

A change of heart.

RJ,

Upon further review printing out all the closing receipts in the selected range is a good idea. Particularly as far as debugging this thing is concerned.

You will have the option to choose to print only the totals of all the closings or to print out all the closings and the totals.

But be forewarned, if you select to total 3 years of sales and hit [TAB] to tell the program to print out all the receipts ( [ENTER] will print only the total] you will need over 1000 sheets of paper in your printer.

Saving closing data to the file

Post by Dale Harris » Sun Dec 19, 2004 2:30 am

The just released POS version 6.21 will begin saving closing data to a file. This means that collective sales reports can be tabulated from when you installed any version of the POS program starting with 6.21 and after.

Version 6.21 itself will not add up sales from this new file but it will save the data to the file so that when this feature is implimented in the next version it will be able to read data from when version 6.21 was installed.
