customer accounts

Some time ago I asked if the POS program could track customer accounts such as when a layaway account might be created and the customer makes installment payments.
At that time, I was told that feature was in future plans.
Is that feature available yet?
It seems to me that a customer account is the same as an inventory record, but with different fields.
I have no idea of how difficult the programming is, so please don't take offense. I just think this feature would enable a quantum leap for the program.

I am planning on starting customer accounts at the start of the next year. This is not going to be easy and will probably take several months to complete.
