I hate to bring up the Big Blue Store, but they have a point. Since some people are lightheaded (literally) enough to Inhale spraypaint, when you try to buy anything that is pressurized in a can (except PAM), at least in my area, you have to be 17. Even for Quick-Dry Witeout. So, when they ring up the item in question, a long BEEEEPPPP is heard, and it displays on their screen (something similar to):

______________
| IS CUST 18? |
| (Y/N) |
______________

So, is there a way to integrate (what I call) "Protected" items? When entering an item into the stock table, pressing a function key would bring up a screen similar to the new "Password" option screen, that allows for you to require a cashiers confirmation that the person is indeed, the age required by your state/country/area to purchase that item. Anyone else ever think of this?

D. Liljengren,

Occasionally this program will be used in a setting where the employees will be required to have more intelligence than fresh vegetables. There are so many different things that are restricted, prohibited, illegal, or just plain stupid that it would be way to complicated to try to have the POS program police everything.

Plus you would have to hire people with the increasing rare ability to read what the POS program prints on the screen. And if they are smart enough to read then they could also be smart enough to not sell aerosols, alcohol, cigarettes, guns, gasoline in pop bottles, Whiteout, propane, prescription drugs without the prescription, and weapons of mass destruction to minors.

Plus having users hire people with some semblance of intelligence is easier for me than writing a new feature into the POS program. :)

But I guess that I will put it into the "think about it" pile.

Age Verification

It's been years since I have programed and I only did in VB so I may be speaking out of my rear end here. I work for a large company which owns the biggest part of the c store market (conveince store). Our price book files are set up in such fashion:
Item number (upc)
Item Descripion
Restriced age
Price
automatic discount to store
second quantity description
second quantity price
second quantity quantity discount
third quantity description
third quantity price
third quantity quantity discount
and so on up to six quantities per item (its very hard to understand unless you see in in action)
anyway the registers read the age restriciton part as: 0= no restriciton 17= 17 or over 18=18 or over 21=21 and over and so on. Would it be possible to set up pos one day to read similar to that or would it just be easier to do it some other way. Just something of the sun blocking pile one day
