Scanning Items into POS

Happy new year to you all.
Great program. Thanks to Dale. I am yet to realize its potentials, what I have read and the setup I have done so far makes me believe it will help me tremendously.

Please forgive me if this is a silly question, I have been struggling with this for over a day now. I have read most of the matrial I can get my hands on. Still I have the problem. Please help. Here is the problem:

I am trying to set up DHPOS for my store. I have created a stock list. I have a laser scanner that I scanned in the bar code from the package (5117910220). So far so good. When I try to make a purchase and scan in the item, the lower left corner sows the item stock number as '----5117910220' and the program complains that the item not in stock. I guess it is becase of the leading '----'. If I select the item from the pick list by hitting <F1>, I dont see that leading '----' for the item and everything works great. This is the only thing that is not working for me. Everything else is working great with the receipt printer, and cash drawer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

While the POS program displays the scanner input preceded by enough underscores to fill out the field the underscores are only displayed and do not affect the operation of the program. The stock number input from the scanner is saved as a numeric value. What may be happening is that the .IDX file which indexes the stock table may be corrupted. To fix this all you have to do is to return to the stock table where you can enter or edit items. Everytime you go there the .IDX file is restored. Then go back to the sales screen and see if the problem is solved.

If there is still a problem then power up your word processing software and scan the item. The scanned stock number will be typed into your document. Take a look at it. Is it the number that you expected?

You can also go to the "search" feature of the main stock table (the one you can edit) to search by stock number. Scan the item and see if the item is found.

When you created your register you had to give it a file name. Since I do not know what name you gave it I will say it is ???????. This means that in the folder you store your POS program files that there is a file named ???????.TBL This is your stock table. If none of the above helps you could you please email your ???????.TBL file to me as an attachment to an email along with your ???????.POS file. I will then use your files to try to recreate and solve the problem here.
