write fault error writing device com1

Post by spectrum » Fri Mar 11, 2005 5:21 pm

Hello,

All of the sudden when launching the POS program the following comes up:

"write fault error writing device com1"

"abort, retry, ignore, fail"

after pressing a for "abort" the program will launch fine.

Once inside, a sale is made and the error repeats itself.

The printer (receipt printer on LPT1) prints fine.

All sales are stored ok but the error comes up always at start, sale and void.

What the heck is this?

Thanks,

Spectrum

Sounds to me like you've told DHPOS to try and open a cash drawer connected to COM1.

That is exactly what it was. Thanks a million for your help. The cash drawer is manual and someone changed settings for this in the PSCONFIG.

Said they thought that they were going into to the stock table.

error with com port

Post by ntabikha » Mon Apr 25, 2005 12:13 am

hello, i have a somewhat similar problem...

i have an old posiflex pos system...
and a cash drawer connected to the serial printer.
to make the story short, when i test the serial.bat via dos, it works, and open the drawer fine.
and when i test it via the posconfig, it works as well. HOWEVER, when i ring up a sale, or try the open drawer option, nothing happens, infact only by adding a PAUSE command inside the .bat file, i was able to read the error ILLEGAL COMMAND COM2
as if the MODE command acts different from dos to shell.

also... printing open and close and sale slips work fine, but if i print a report, it seems as if it dont FORCE FEEDLINE. and lines are all connected.
i feel like its that last bit of programing that prints the date on the sale slip. because the error always follow it.

any ideas? thanks.

You don't use serial(whatever).bat if your cash drawer is fired by your docket printer. You need to enter the control codes into POSCONFIG and you should be OK.

my printer IS a serial printer. and the cash drawer is hooked to it!

but where is the CODE menu? i couldnt find anything other than the serials set.

the drawer opens at startup, and during serial.bat testing. but not anywhere else.

printer prints correctly during open, close, and sales, but unformated text during any reports and "open drawer, no sale"

go figure. hehehe

Again, you do not use the serial(whatever).bat files when your cash drawer is fired by the docket printer, regardless of whether the printer is connected via a parallel or serial port! Under POS CONFIG, go to the Open Cash Drawer menu, and set the code to be sent to the printer. When you press Enter to continue, you will be prompted to enter the code that makes the printer fire the drawer open.

im pretty much sure i aint that dumb, but the codes you are telling me about are only in the LPT menu, not the COM, and since my printer IS serial, everytime i tried what u told me, i got errors that the printer LPT was not connected!

the pos program is faulty in some point! the ^G (char #7, bell) key is prossessed correctly during some functions and give errors in others.

example:
during open pos, if i choose print receipt, it prints but dont open drawer,
but if i skip printout, it DOES open it.

check all subroutines (if you're the writer)

im using a posiflex pp-3000 printer (star emulation) if that helps.
