For the benefit of those who currently
do not need networking, I will post
this reminder.
DhPos 4.28 is a gem.
It is a solid, stable, reliable workhorse.
It looks good, it runs good.
Thanks Dale

I have to agree with casmit, 4.28 is excellent and as I do not need network features I will stay with this, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"

Versions

Good idea. POS 5.0 will have the exact same features as version 4.28 except that 5.0 will work on a network. So if you do not need network compatability then 4.28 will be identical to 5.0 except that 4.28 will have less bugs since I have not made any changes to 4.28 while I have made tons of changes to 5.0.

However that is only a good plan for now. Future features will be stuffed only into versions 5.01 and beyond. I have tried in the past to maintain two versions of this software and it has been a nightmare. But that does not mean that 4.28 is a dead end. Whenever new features are added to the program there is always the possibility of messing something up that has worked before. So even if I continued the 4.+ series, as soon as I added a new feature to it, it would be suspect until Barry and others have told me if I have done something stupid, again.

Dale,

For the benefit of old 4.28 single-station
users like me, is it time yet to download
and move forward with the 5's or would
you wait a while and stick with 4.28
where networking is not yet needed?

Thanks for a fine piece of work.

Beta testing

Chasmet,

Version 5 is still in beta testing. This means thatit is not stable enough to release. At this time no one should actually be using version 5.

Plus, except for the network feature, there are no other new features or bug fixes in version 5 so if you are a "single user" there is not reason to upgrade even after version 5 has been released. Wait for, oh let's say, version 5.06 when there is a new feature that you can use.

Thanks Dale.

From us non-network-now 4.28ers, do you
still want 'possible bug' reports?

Of course bug reports still need to be filed - there's a high chance that a bug in 4.28 would exist in 5.

Send them on in, unless you already see the bug has been squashed in the 5.x series reports.

I too am using 4.28 , however by using POS 5 one can access the stock table using the "stock" and "purchase" programs both , without closing down the register, which I find very handy.
