Proposed new feature.

At the key shop that I manage we have part time people who work unsupervised for several hours. At other shops in the chain we, from time to time, hire new managers who work alone. The problem is that some of the people that we hire wander off, sometimes for hours. In fact we had one manager who would open the shop in the morning and then leave to go to his health club for 3 hours every morning. We were paying him 15 hours a week to be in the health club while the key shop was closed.

So the proposed new feature for the POS program is to have a timer that you can set to beep. You will be able to set it to beep after 0 minutes (no beeping) to 60 minutes from the last transaction. When it beeps the employee must press any key on the register and then an entry will be made on the journal when the key was pressed, and how long it took to press the key while the register was beeping.

Please note that if (for example) you set the register to beep every 30 minutes and your store is so busy that you have a sale every 5 minutes, that your register will never beep. But that is OK because on your journal there will be, on average, only 5 minutes between transactions and you can be sure that if the employee is ringing up sales that he is in the shop.

It's Okay, i guess.
If you really wanted to get good, you could make it so that someone would have to enter their employee number/PIN. But you probably don't need this.

I've seen a few similar features, yes it could be a good option.

I've seen tills that go into Secure Mode, and require a password to get back in, and also I've noted many stores have a feature in the back office that checks to see if tills are logged on to ensure compliance (ie 2 customer service tills must be attended at all times)
