Receipt Header and footer for network POS

Hi,
Why can't i set up different header and footer for different local POS machine? Since we can setup diffeerent page width for each local POS by itself....

Good question.

lsunw,
It is assumed that every register in the store would use the same header and footer. However since it is possible for some registers to be connected to receipt printers and some registers to be connected to regular computer printers (although why would anyone want to do this?) that under that circumstance you would need different headers and footers (and coupons) for each printer. This also means that you would have to type in the header, footers, and coupons separately on each computer in the network even if you wanted them all to be the same.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Usually, The Header/Footer & Coupons would be the same. I don't see any reason to go around making them different for each register.

Headers and footers

Chris,
The possible problem pointed out by lsunw is that some printers on the network of registers may print at 40 characters per line but others may print at 80 characters per line. So even if the headers, footers, and coupons for the different registers all had the same information it would have to be formatted differently in 40 wide than in 80 wide.

ok...i set up 2 POS, 1 use for regular cash sale(receipt printer with 40 width), another one for printing cash invoice (regular printer with 80width) which I would had more information to the header and footer, like, signature, footnote....while in receipt printer i just need to print out clean receipt.
my intention is to use same inventory so that i got a up to date inventory all the time.

if some of the printers are 40 and 80 then, then set them all to 40 characters to solve the problem.
Different Printer Widths...

Hey Dale & Co....
I acutally use a setup simular, where the cash registers have 40 characters/line, and the office is a 'standard' 80 characters/line printer. I'm sure we can all figure out that the printers with the registers are used for receipts, and I use the larger format in the office for printing open/close reports, sales reports, etc... It's alot easier to file 8.5x11 paper than receipt paper. I did notice the headers appear off center on the office printers, but never really paid it alot of attention because it's only used for internal paperwork, and therefore didn't really bother me.
The only suggestion I have, that would make the most sense, is to have DHPOS center the header/footer on the terminals set to print 80 characters, and leave the 40 character printers where they are. If both 40 and 80 exist in the same network. Unless there's some way to 'pull' the header off the global folder, then allow local adjustments it if necessary. Either that or have both 40 and 80 headers and footers in the setup file....but again, just seems a bit much.
My Solution

Hi,
Let me tell u my solution for it...
I put those header and footer that i appear in both 40 width and 80 width in the first 40 character. And put only those need only appear in 80 width printer at the last 40 character.
Although it quite troublesome and not convenience but since it is only the way out...unless Dale would like to do some changes on it.
Not sure if that would work

That sounds like a great idea, but if I'm not mistaken, when you would attempt to print a receipt on a 40 collum printer, it would print the first 40 characters, then new line, and the remaining 40 characters for all the lines. So you'd end up with a funky looking receipt, instead of a cash invoice.

Well folks it is not much trouble at all to switch the headers, footers, and coupons to be in the local folders instead of the global folders. All I have to do is copy and paste some code, not a problem.
But here is the deal. If you have 8 registers this means that you will have to type in each header, each footer, and each coupon 8 times, i.e. you will have to type it in on each register. Gone will be the days of being able to type in a coupon (or header / footer) only once from any register and it will be changed on all the registers. You will have to make sure that every register has the same coupon offer because it will now be possible to change the coupons on some registers and not others.
Every action has a reaction. Do you want to be able to enter different headers, footers, and coupons on different registers but then have the additional hassle of having to enter them on multiple registers even if they will be the same on multiple registers?
Stay Global

I don't think it would be too bad to re-enter the headers and footers, because at least for me, they don't change. But having to do the coupons would be a headache to put in on all, because they change frequently. I would have to vote no, too leave it a global setting.

I would agree.

Even though it may come in handy randomly, and on rare occasion...the headache would far excede the benifit gained from that change. I vote for it to remain the way it currently is.
Headers & Coupons

If there is more then one computer running POS, I can see it being useful as to placing the register name\# somewhere on the receipts. I don't bother switching between 40 & 80 print layouts. Everything stays on 40 & when a report is printed on a regular piece of paper it still prints 40 characters accross & I use the other half of the paper for other things.
Maybe coupons can be global & headers + footers can be local or even easier leave it the way it is.
Another idea is to have a copy\load button if you do decide to enter multiple headers & footers you press that button & it copies the info from the global folder.

Tina - on networked systems, DHPOS will add the register letter after the transaction number. Although I can see the benefit of a name for the register appearing on some receipts.
If the header/footer/coupons were made local - I like the option of a "copy from global" option.
However I feel coupons would be better just being retrieved from the global non-stop, in case someone forgot to "unload" a coupon once a promotion ended.

I like the idea of putting another option of letting user to copy the global header/footer/coupon to the local
