Network question

Post by lsunw » Sat Apr 23, 2005 10:04 pm

Hi,

I just want to ask a silly question, is there any different in performance when I use the DHPOS network on a hub, router and switch?

It's entirely dependant on the speed of the hub/switch/router, your network cabling quality, network card speed - allsorts.

With the small amount of data DHPOS transmits, I doubt any significant benefit would be had from having a super fast network setup.

I haven't configured a real network with it, but I'm sure it would function just as speedily on a slower network.

If you are only using DHPOS on the network, and only with a few terminals, a hub should be OK. If it is a "common" network (so to speak) for other uses as well, it's better to go with a switch so that the data goes "straight through" to its destination (a hub just repeats the data everywhere, and you will end up with a lot of collisions).
