Im hearing on the grapevine that there is a POS payroll system.

Is that true and are there any copies available to trial??

It is true, I wrote it - however it is a bit aged and in need of updating.

http://payroll.notlong.com , it's freeware and if I get a chance, one day I may write a more flexible and fresher version.
