Is there a way of doing returns on the purchase menu. That way I don't have to give money back then they give me money for the new more expensice product. Just trying to keep it to one transaction and the customer only has give the difference in price. and my stock doesn't get messed up.

No - returns are not a purchase.

Dale did try at least once to work an exchange feature but it was far to complicated to keep all the math in check.

Just retain the return receipt, ring up the new sale, and calclate the difference using the calculator (press F2 anywhere in DHPOS for a calculator).
