Newbie Question

Hi guys! I'm thinking seriously of implementing POS in a restaurant environment. I've been testing it on a LAN here at home and so far no problem. The only thing that I'm wondering is if it is possible to print out an order or bill before finalising the sale , example, waitress sends order to kitchen printer and then finalises it later. we were also thinking of being able to use multiple databases too .. is this doable ... or not a chance?

Yes, in POSCONFG turn on "Sale Parking" and in "Printer Setup" set "Allow printing of Sales Checks" to YES.

When you press + to subtotal a sale it will ask if you want to finish the sale, or print a sales check.

If you are using APRINT you can set it to send the receipt to two printers all the time (e.g. terminal/register and kitchen).

You are going to have to explain this a bit more - POS doesn't really use databases, just a group of files each having a certain function e.g. stock table, system settings, sales records etc?

I'm not sure what you mean by "multiple databases".

I was thinking along the terms of pricing ... one for in the restaurant another for deliveries and another for take-outs ... that's why i wrote multiple databases ... and also because in certain applications the sale would require address and phone (delivery) ... and in other instances we would not need it ... but we would need to use a rebated price ( take-out)

Adam,

You can run multiple different registers on the same computer or network and they would utilize different data files but they would be totally different. For example different registers would have different prices and different settings for customer info and they would have different inventories also even if you wanted to share the inventories, ie. somthing removed from the inventory of one register would not be removed from the inventory of the other register, a price change on one register would not change the price on the other register.

NOTE: in the above paragraph "Different registers" refers to different register files (virtual registers) not different computers or different networks.
