Hi ,
I have been trying to use the "auto report" . The files are saved into the new directory only when using the test F3 button. When closing down POS register no files are saved.
I am using win2000 and are saving the files to Data format .

Thanks
Robert Nel

Sub folder

Robert_Nel,

Are you looking in your POS folder for the file? It won't be there. The files are save to a sub-folder to your POS folder that uses the same name for the folder as your register file.

For example, if your POS folder is C:\POS and your register file name is THESTORE then the files will be saved in the folder C:\POS\THESTORE. If you are saving to a different drive (like A: ) then the files will be saved to the folder A:\THESTORE.

The reason for using subfolders is that unlike all the other data files produced by a particular register the data files created using the "auto reports" feature do not use the register filename as part of the file's file name. If you are running several registers from the same folder saving them all to the POS folder would append all the files of the same type and created on the same day, but from different registers, all into the same file.

Auto reports

Robert_Nel,

I just tried it here and it worked like a champ. I am assuming that you are closing out your register with option #2 Print, save, erase? Do you get the warning message about making sure that you have the printer ready and disks in the drives?

Hi Dale ,
The function works when I press F3 and hold the button down. No reports are saved when closing , could this have something to do with WIN2000 ?.

PIN numbers

Robert_Nel,

When you mentioned entering the password that gave me an idea, since I do not use passwords here. So I enabled the "reports" password and closed out the register and it worked just fine.

So then I enabled PIN numbers and gave it a try, NOTHING.

I have changed the program so that it will no longer ask for a PIN number when the program goes into "auto reports." I closed out here with PIN numbers enabled and this time it worked fine.

I have two questions for you. Is your register set up to use PIN numbers and if so would you please replace your FILEINFO.EXE file with this one and try it out. http://keyhut.com/fileinfo.exe Remember to back up your current FILEINFO.EXE file first.

However the password thing does pose a question. When executing auto reports should the program also skip asking for the password? I think it should be skipped because if the password is asked for but not entered then it will be possible to not create the reports and then reset the data.

Hi Dale ,
Thanks for the very quick responce.
Yes I do use pin numbers and yes the new fileinfo.exe works. I will install at the PUb tonight. It may be an idea to to away with the password as you suggest, because then a mistake by not printing reports can be avoided.
