I am setting up network for my registers in DHPOS, and I was wondering if it matters where i place the global folders or not. I was also wondering how to fingure out what the path would be, any help would greatly be appreciated.

Fawn,

The type of network that you must use will identify the hard drive on the server that is shared by all the computers on the network by a hard drive letter like F: or G: as opposed to the local hard drive that will be C: for the main local hard drive.

Assuming that the server drive is F: then on the F: drive you should create a folder named F:\GLOBAL which would be a folder right off the root of the F: drive. Into the F:\GLOBAL folder you would place all the files from the POS software. Then the PATH to this folder (the "network path" required by the POS program) would be F:\GLOBAL

Fawn,

My experience is that it is better (if possible) to use a PC which is not accessible to the clients for the Server that holds the Global folder.
This does make it a bit easier to do maintanaince on the system without being interrupted by- or disturbing the customers.

As far as I know the network parth will always be:- \\(then the PC network name as seen in Windows explorer)\(the hard drive letter on which the Global folder is)\(and then the name of the Global folder - usually "Global")

Hope this helps.

Nope - it's recommended to "map the network drive" rather than using the machine path. Also - the name of the share depends entirely on what the user names it, same goes for the global folder - some people might call it FISHSTICKS if they so choose.
