Hi, I've used POS for a while now. I'm looking at getting a receipt printer and I'm not too sure what to look for.

I'm definately looking for a printer with a parallel interface, and the decision between thermal and dot-matrix will ultimately depend on price.

I've been looking at the Epson TM-U300C M51JC printer and can get a good price on it.

If/when I do buy one, how do I set it up? Is there something I should watch out for when buying one?

Any help would be appreciated!

Basically for an Epson TM-U300C receipt printer you have to plug it in to the computer and a power source, load paper, and turn it on. Use the "Printer setup" feature of the POSCONFG.EXE program to enter the "cutter bar" control code of 27,105. That should about do it.

If you are also plugging a cash drawer into the printer you will have to enter the "open cash drawer" code into the "open cash drawer" feature of the POSCONFG.EXE program. For an Epson TM-U300C receipt printer that code would be 27,112,0,25,250.

For a thermal printer the printer and the paper will cost more but will print faster, but you will only be able to print in single ply paper. For an impact printer the printer and paper will cost less, you will be able to print on multi-ply paper, but you will also have to purchase ink ribbons.
