I doubt many of the stores DHPOS is targeted at would be able to afford a full blown kiosk with a mag strip reader, let alone give out mag strip gift cards.

I think most will be inclined to print their own with barcodes on them.

thats true. i guess if you have a station set up running the price check program, there could be an option saying to check gift card balance, press x button and scan gift card.

My 2 cents,
Chris :)

Dale,

Allowing X-Charge to keep track of the account vs. having in the DHPOS system would offer one major advantage. For those of us who have more than one store, could honor the same gift card at any location vs only the location you purchased the card from. Well, that and the fact that it's one less thing to worry about a less-than-best associate who figures his way into the 'accounts' screen from adjusting the balance on his, his mothers/friends/etc... cards.

As far as when does it affect sales? Well, in most cases it only shows up as a "sale" as the card as used. Just another form of payment. Accountants refer to this as "funds collected for services not yet rendered" and "sales derived from funds previously collected"... and therefore no sales taxes are collected on a gift card, because even though you're 'selling' them a gift card, you've yet to sell any merchendise. You're actually just creating a variation on a checking account, just instead of giving them a check book, you're just handing over a card.

Which is kinda how Enron got in trouble. If they were a retailer.... they would have not only shown the money collected for a gift card as a "sale" the day they put the money in the drawer, but also as the purchases were made with the card.

Just wanting to know if the gift card option has come along any further. Thanks for all the hard work.
