is this usb barcode scanner compatible?

Hi, below I have included a description of a barcode scanner that I can get, would someone tell me if I bought it, would I be able to simply plug it in and start using it with the POS program? Or would there be lots of difficult programming involved? and also, can anyone tell from the description if it would handle ordinary uk barcodes ok? for example the type that are printed on drinks cans etc?

Probably will - but have you seen a picture of these things? The ones I've seen look like a flippin cat - do you want to be the one clutching a stoopid feline while you're scanning barcodes?

Google them. They were such rubbish that when they were given away free still nobody wanted them.

Its cheap, thats why I looked at it, I can't afford to get really good stuff right away, we're just starting up and the budget is small.

The CueCat scanners work just fine as long as they have been modified so that software is not needed to use them as barcode scanners.

It is true that CueCats have been discontinued however the reason that they were created had nothing to do with using them as barcode scanners. They were to be used to scan special barcodes in newpapers or magazines that would take your broweser to the advertiser's website. That did not work out so well.
