Pole Display Problem

Post by ToPS » Mon Jan 30, 2006 5:18 pm

Being quite new to DHPOS (about 4 months) I have browsed this forum but is seems that nobody else has had my problem, so any help will be appreciated.

Background:- 3 PC networked system running DHPOS 6.37g on Windows 98SE with the only other programs installed being a minimum istallation of Office97.
Partner CD7220 Pole displays working very well using direct access on Com1 until I upgraded from 6.37d to 6.37f and then to 6.37g.

Problem:- When the program is entered the "Welcome to ..." message is flashed across the pole display very quickly and then disappears.
When the cashier number is entered the "Serving you is ..." message is also flashed across the display very quickly and then disappears.
When any item is rung up the details are proudly displayed and stays displayed, as is the total amout and change due.

Now this tells me that
a.) the pole display is in a working condition
b.) there is communication between the program and the pole display which in some instances works exactly as it should and in others not really.
c.) something is causing certain "messages" (not all messages) not to be displayed continuously.
As I have not changed any hardware and this happens on two different PC's with two different Pole Displays I rule out hardware.

I have checked and re-checked that the port setting in Windows device manager and in DHPOS are the same. (i.e. baud rate, data bits, parity and stop bits) and I have tried all mode settings but to no avail.
The messages either disappears completely or there is no change at all.
I have even tried re-starting the PC (and DHPOS) after each changed setting but still no change.

Remote.exe worked in 6.37d but despite re-doing all settings & parths it does not work now in 6.37g(or f).
Pole.exe has been tried on all versions but I have never had any success with it.

At this stage it will be appreciated if any expert can discreetly tell me how stupid I am and what I am missing.....or I just might jump on a couple of expensive pieces of equipment out of pure frustration.

Well partnerTech is a bad type to use with DHPOS beacuse of the main processor board construction within the display

My Suggestion:

Get 6.37d again or what ever version/revision worked last time :)

ToPS - I have written a Windows-based "bigpole" equivalent which I am using in my store at the moment. When I upgraded to 6.37f (can't remember what version from), the customer display began to act up, and I had to re-write some of the code.

I know this is not exactly a great deal of help to you, but I would say it's not your pole displays or any hardware settings. POS is writing extra data to pole.dat (beyond the extra records for tax and total), and I suspect that is what is causing your problem.

Pole problems

ToPS,

From your post I may have an idea or two about the problem. To recap, you say that the problem only occurs when "Welcome to..." and employee names are posted on the pole display. Any other places?

Everybody,
Thanx a stack for your replies and inputs, it is appreciated.
You might be happy to know that due to the month-end rush I have not yet had the time to jump on equipment.

Dale,
yes you are correct and I have checked again but could not notice any her places other than those I mentioned.

Please note that remote.exe also comes up blank - nothing at all, not even the totals or items.

Silence is golden etc.

From the lack of any new postings here I assume that everybody has given up on this.

I still have the problem.

NB PLEASE NOTE that Remote does not work either!
