PROGRAM SHUTS DOWN

Post by FOSTER » Wed Sep 01, 2004 4:46 pm

I RECENTLY DOWNLOADED THE 6.13 VERSION. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS WHEN I HIT ESC TO GO BACK TO THE MAIN MENU, THE FOLLOWING POPS UP

"FILE NOT FOUND IN LINE "0" or "FILEINFO" OF MODULE CF2:0674 @ ADDRESS 0543:08913 HIT ANY KEY TO RETURN TO SYSTEM"

WHEN I HIT ANY KEY, THE SYSTEM SHUTS DOWN AND I HAVE TO RESTART THE PROGRAM.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Foster,

Where are you pressing Esc, in a sale/void etc?

Also - please avoid typing in all CAPS - it makes it hard to read and is a form of shouting on the internet.

Foster,

Yep, I need more information on this. You are returning from where to get back to the main menu?

program shuts down

Post by FOSTER » Thu Sep 02, 2004 12:26 pm

The program does not shut down after ringing up a sale or void. It does shut down after I look at the Reports menu or if I go into the sub categories under File Maintenance such as run & stocktable.

What is happening

Post by Dale Harris » Thu Sep 02, 2004 4:15 pm

Foster,

When the POS program uses features in "File maintanence" or "Reports" it usually will shut down POS.EXE and start other program files like POSCONFG.EXE, CF2.EXE, or FILEINFO.EXE.

When one of those programs finishes doing whatever nefarious task it was asked to do it will shut down and try to restart the POS.EXE program.

The problem you are having is that none of these programs can find the POS.EXE program.

How can this be?

When you download my POS program all of the program files are hidden in the POS.ZIP file. While you can run this program from the POS.ZIP file by using WinZip or PK-Zip if one of the program files tries to to call another it will not work because they are hidden in the POS.ZIP file.

To work properly you must unzip / extract the files from POS.ZIP and apparently this was done since the program files POSCONFG.EXE, CF2.EXE, or FILEINFO.EXE can be found by the other program files. However POS.EXE cannot be found.

The only way that I can think of that this can be happening is that somewhere in the recent past POS.EXE got itself deleted and you are running this program from the POS.ZIP file.

Do this. Use "My Computer" to look into the folder that you are running the Cash Register program from and see if it contains a POS.EXE file. If it only shows the file name POS under the icon you will not know if it is a POS.ZIP or POS.EXE file so click on [View] at the top of the "My Computer" window and then click on [List] to display the full file names. Is POS.EXE there?

If it is are you sure that this is the folder that you are running the POS program from and that there are not two folders that contain POS files, the one that you are looking at and the one you use to actually run the program. (I know this sounds stupid but I and the folks on chat once spent an entire week trying to solve a similar problem only to find that the person having the problem had two folders with POS files and could not tell them apart.

If POS.EXE is in the proper folder then I am mystified.

Come back and let us know what you found out.

program shuts down

Dale,

I did not see pos.exe in the file I keep the program in. I also looked in my file that contained the 3.42 file and I could not find it there either. What are your suggestions?

First use the Windows "Find" feature to search your hard drive for POS.EXE to see if it is somewhere else. If so then copy the file to the proper folder.

If you cannot find it then unzip / extract the files from the POS.ZIP file again.
