Remote Viewer / Security

Post by RJ » Tue Aug 31, 2004 10:53 pm

Hello Dale! Excellent job with the software. I tested the Remote Viewer program and works great. However, when a cashier voids a line on the transaction, that does not show on the viewer. Coupons do, but voids, no. Also, can there be an option whether or not to enforce security on voiding a line/transaction? I am a developer myself of POS software for Windows and every program I've used had this option. I also work in a grocery store and just the other day I had to fire a cashier for scanning an item, voiding it, scanning another item, voiding it, etc. She actually stole a Manager ID card (barcode label) from someone and used it. So would it be possible to add this option and to fix the remote viewer?

Thanks!

RJ,

No one has ever brought up this point before. I have never considered it a security issue to void a line from an uncompleted sale because it will not show up on the receipt printed at the end of the sale. In otherwords a voided line is a non-issue. It has always been that way on all the registers that I have used in various keyshops over that last 34 years. That would be a LOT of different register systems.

I guess that I will wait to hear the opinions of others on this subject before I consider doing something about it, i.e., the lazy way out. :)

Thanks Dale! The way our system works at our store, when a cashier does a void or an error correct (voiding last item scanned) they have to have a manager id card. When it is voided, it shows on the receipt something like

SODA BOTTLE $1.99 TF
SOMETHING ELSE $2.49 T
SODA BOTTLE $1.99-VTF

The system does give us an option however if voided items should be displayed on receipts. But the owner likes it displayed in case a customer comes in then they know exactly what took place during the transaction. I am a developer of a Windows-based POS and have implemented this... Also, have you gotton my post about the Remote Viewer issue? Just a suggestion... And last but not least, I was interested in making some 3rd-Party software made in Windows, BUT would need to know how you formated the item file, employee file, and POS file. Would it be possible to e-mail it? If not, it's quite alright. No coding, but how it is laid out.

Access to file formats and code for certain things are prohibited due to security reasons.

Any available formats and code are in the Knowledgebase at http://crnc.notlong.com (click Publications --> Knowledgebase).

File formats

RJ,

The file formats for the stock table and the employee names are here

http://return.no-ip.org/dalehnews/crnc_ ... ed%20Users

although I do need to update the employee code for 56 employees instead of just 28 and for the stock table I need to post the code that uses the .TBL file to update the .IDX file. I may do that today. Of course the code posted will not give you access to employee PIN numbers. Andrew is correct in that some of the stuff in the files must remain known only by me, for example PIN numbers, passwords, transaction numbers, total sales and tax amounts, and other stuff. But if you need any other information from the files that is not secret let me know.

I am still waiting for others to post their opinions on voiding lines before I stick it into the "think about it" pile.
Dale
