One of the biggest helps to my application would be to allow printing of opening and closing forms but not print or ask to print for each sale. I have one parallel printer that I shared on the network. It is in a snack bar setup so that I run many $0.25-$1.00 transactions per day and my staff member...

When I say cheet sheet, I mean a paper similar to this . This sheet sits next to the counter and has everything on it that is custom made, commonly used, without barcode, or just has a good reason for being there. Trust me, I know how to use POS just as well as anyone on this message board (short of...

This would help me out greatly this summer. I wish it were already here. I run a summer camp store and we do lots of small items (ice, sodas, pencils, candy, etc.) on top of our nomral sales with a UPC-A attached. This would keep me from having to make a "cheat sheet" with barcodes for normal items ...

Make sure it's a scanner that doesn't output un-decoded. That sounds like your problem and a quick web search confirmed this (although I am probably wrong). When you see the input (what gets typed in) and the stock number, it should be the same as the human-readable characters under the bottom of th...

Also, I've found that POS works better with an extended keyboard with a dedicated number pad on the right. With this, you can just hit the (*) key with no shifting and entering numbers and the (+) key is super easy. Most notebook computers will support a PS2 keyboard for this that is easier to type ...

In my case, I run a stripped down dos system and have it boot directly to POS. I have a very old box I'm running this off of (non-profit, Boy Scout Camp) and I don't want my employees running games (non-existant, but there's no chance at all). I use the autoexec.bat file to run at startup. It only w...

Just as a quick note, if Excel is installed properly, you can usually just rename the output file from file.TXT to file.CSV (Comma Seperated Values), then Excel will run with the file and automatically convert it. Don't forget to save your changes once you get in Excel though. In most DOS systems, y...

OS
I (for the last summer) used FreeDOS, which worked quite well. It used a tiny image, booted within 2 seconds of when the POST was done, and was completely stable. This year, it looks like I'm going to have to switch to MS-DOS to keep the stability but get the network features. I run a store for a Bo...
